Words from Move Redmond Executive Director

By Kelli Refer

Dear Move Redmond Supporters,

At Move Redmond we believe how you get around matters. We believe that taking transit helps you get to know your neighbors and that a bike ride can be the cure for a bad day. We believe that a vanpool at your work can turn coworkers into friends. We believe that an ORCA card can change your life. We believe that access to safe and reliable walking, biking and transit options empower entire communities.

At Move Redmond, we envision an Eastside that is easy and safe to navigate without relying on a car. Redmond can lead the way in ending car dependency to a community where non-drivers have as much access to opportunities as drivers do. These changes in infrastructure will not only make Redmond more sustainable, but also more livable and inclusive. We can create a sense of place and belonging through design that invites people to sit and stay rather than pass through.

I am honored to lead the Move Redmond team and have been incredibly proud of the work we have done this year. Move Redmond has been preparing for light rail since I joined the organization four years ago.  The opening of the 2 Line this April marked a watershed moment for transportation in Redmond. Our future is multimodal with even the Downtown Redmond Link Extension opening next spring.

Our work is more than big openings; it’s rooted in the day-to-day outreach done by our team. It is showing up at the Redmond library and Together Center every month to distribute Free Youth ORCA cards, Station Access Maps, and talking with people about their transportation needs. It is unfolding our Station Access Map to help people get from point A to point B. It’s meeting with our member organizations and helping them craft a better commute program. Community feedback informs our advocacy priorities, and we know you want safer streets and more transit options. We are here to fight for that vision.

The fact is, transportation touches every single person in our community, and together, we can make it better, safer, more sustainable, reliable, and joyful. Your donation helps power our work for better streets, trails and transit. Please consider making a donation today or joining us at our Transportation Par-Tee where we will Walk, Roll, and Raise funds for our annual bike classes, station access maps, and expanded community outreach. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Kelli Refer, Executive Director
