Candidate Bus Ride Along Interviews
By Maritza Lauriano Ortega
Election day is right around the corner! Every vote carries the power to elect leaders who represent the people’s diverse needs and address critical issues that affect our communities. Voting for city officials is crucial as these public leaders make decisions on issues like education, transportation policies, infrastructure, urban planning, and more that impact our everyday lives.
Voting can be a complex process, especially when there are numerous candidates and issues to consider. To help understand where each candidate stands on transportation issues, Move Redmond reached out to all Mayoral and City Council Candidates for a Candidate Bus Ride Along interview. We met with candidates at the Redmond Technology Station and rode together to the Bellevue Transit Center as we asked them questions focused on transportation policies, pedestrian safety, and creating walkable communities.
Holding a Candidate Bus ride along with all the candidates was important for the Move Redmond team, as it allowed candidates to experience what an average day for someone who relies on transportation can look like. If candidates didn’t arrive on time, it meant waiting extra time for the next bus. This also allowed for a unique platform for spontaneity and authenticity in each candidate’s response to each question
