About Us

Our Mission
Achieve a more accessible and inclusive Redmond through its streets, trails and transits.
Our Vision
Redmond will be a more livable community through investment in walking, biking, and transit that enable people to get where they need to go without a car. We do this with an intersectional approach focusing on collaboration, equity, sustainability, policy, and funding.
Our Values
Move Redmond acknowledges the role of transportation as a tool used to systematically segregate and disenfranchise Black, Indigenous, and people of color in the United States. Our organization remains committed to anti-racism in transportation and to seeking mobility justice for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Transformational change in transportation requires collaboration with many partners. From our members, to elected officials, city staff, and community organizations, it takes working together to achieve safer streets and improved mobility for all.
Move Redmond values safer streets for all people, no matter how you choose to get around. Our work will always prioritize safety improvements in transportation projects, as well as ensuring people feel safe while they get around.
Move Redmond takes a holistic approach to sustainability, taking on work that reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions at a regional level through transportation. Organizationally we maintain a sustainable workplace that pays employees a living wage and have healthy financial reserves.

Objectives
Safer Streets
No one should be killed or seriously injured by Redmond’s transportation system. We will advocate for policies and infrastructure that reduce serious injuries and fatalities on our streets. Move Redmond will work to ensure that the Vision Zero resolution is implemented through the City of Redmond’s Transportation Master Plan. We will advocate to fund projects that reduce speeds, enhance pedestrian crossings, and build protected bike lanes. We will support policies that ensure safety and accessibility are at the core of every transportation project.
OUTCOMES:
- Redmond will see zero fatalities and serious injuries on our streets.
- 90% of the funded projects in the City of Redmond’s Capital Improvement Program are Safety Projects.
Frequent, Reliable & Affordable Transportation Options
Move Redmond members, community partners, and residents need more accessible transportation options. With more transportation options we can reduce vehicle miles traveled with people driving alone. People need to have flexibility and options to meet complex transportation needs. Frequent and reliable transit ensures everyone who works or lives in Redmond is able to get around without a car, regardless of age, ability, culture, race or income. We will monitor policies and funding opportunities at the Federal, State, and Local levels to identify funding for transit, walking and biking. We also seek to promote innovation and other options, like micromobility, on-demand transit service, vanpool, community van and more.
OUTCOMES:
- Redmond transit ridership increases 35% on both bus service and light rail, we will utilize ridership data from King County Metro and Sound Transit to track progress on this outcome
- The City of Redmond builds 10 miles of protected bike lanes that support a connected and protected bike network.
Support Change in Individual Transportation Habits
Move Redmond will work closely with our Member Organizations and Community Partners to support individual people in shifting their transportation habits. This happens through a combination of one-on-one consulting, education, and providing resources and encouragement to help people shift their trips from driving alone to another option.
For our Member Organizations, we will support their Commute Trip Reduction programming and encourage best practices in Transportation Demand Management work to give people the tools they need to transform their commutes. We will serve as consultants to help employers meet the transportation needs of their employees. This work happens through promoting transit, shuttles, vanpool, carpooling, bicycling and walking to work.
With our community partners, we will connect with the broader public in Redmond through events that we organize and attend. We will provide resources, like maps, patch kits and provide educational events and classes. We commit to showing up regularly at places where people already gather, like the library and Together Center and special events that we host or are hosted by other partners.
Outcomes:
- The City of Redmond reduces the Vehicle Miles Traveled by 35% in 2035, as indicated in the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan
- 75% of Move Redmond Members offer transit passes to employees

Storytelling
Move Redmond believes in the power of the personal story as a tool to change hearts and minds. Peoples’ lived experience matters. Every person has a transportation story and together these stories weave a narrative about transportation in our community. Our work is to gather and share these stories in order to highlight the experiences people have on our streets, and to use storytelling in our advocacy to push for safer streets and more transportation options.
Narrative change is central to achieving our strategic objectives because how people talk about and perceive transportation issues impacts their behavior. Over the next three years, Move Redmond will focus on key messaging and framing related to each strategic objective, and we will weave this storytelling into our communications, testimony, events and comment letters. It can take a generation to accomplish deep narrative change; to push back against a deep-seated narrative that driving alone equals freedom.
Our Work
Move Redmond serves our members with transportation program support for Commute Trip Reduction and Mobility Management Plans. We also work with community organizations and hold public events to achieve our goals of increasing transportation options for everyone.

Theory of Change
Move Redmond’s Theory of Change provides a framework for achieving our strategic objectives. On the left side of the diagram shows that Move Redmond advocates for both policies and infrastructure funding at multiple levels of government. We spend more time advocating at the local and regional level than we do at the state or the federal level. However, policies and funding may start at the federal level through the Transportation Reauthorization and those impact how much money moves into State and local budgets. On the right side of the diagram, Move Redmond works with our members and the community to build power and public support for transportation options. This work leads to behavior change, that in turn strengthens the case for more infrastructure investment and better policies for safer streets. Together this results in improved infrastructure and a mode shift of more people taking transit, walking and biking in Redmond.
How We Sustain Ourselves
The organizational value of sustainability extends to organizational management. As an organization we ensure we have healthy reserves and to use our resources effectively. This involves having a solid foundation of membership dues, service contracts and diversifying revenue to include sponsorships, grants and donations.
At Move Redmond we pride ourselves in a sustainable work/life balance for our team. Our team is small and nimble, allowing us to respond to emergent issues and tend to the most impactful work. Our team also recognizes that we are whole humans with many other things going on in our lives. We commit to maintaining a flexible work environment, a robust benefit package and two annual office closures in addition to paid time off. A healthy and happy work environment is critical because this work is relational, and when we have staff who have built the relationships with members and community partners we have a solid foundation of trust and can move faster when we need
